 VoIP * Workshop February 22

HardwareAs Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is revolutionizing the century old telephone industry, the free and open source software Asterisk is setting the pace for standardization of PBX equipment. This is a free workshop and all are welcome. This will be an introduction to VoIP and Asterisk where you can see a demonstration of equipment, try out the easy to use management software and discuss the challenges and opportunities of VoIP. Bring your laptop so you can explore the Asterisk management software with a web browser on your desktop.

There will be door prize draw so bring your business cards.

For computer nerds there will be a demonstration on Monday February 18 at the Lethbridge Linux User Group meeting at the same address.

 LEGO Announces Open Source Firmware for LEGO® MINDSTORMS® NXT

HardwareLinuxGuru writes "As the father of two young boys this is great news. The LEGO® MINDSTOMS® are going Open Source.

These are more then just toys they are an excellent introduction into robotics for all ages.

I think the Open Source community will soon give us a good selection of Linux software to use with these educational tools. "

 ATI Releases Drivers For X.Org

HardwareAmadaeus writes "ATI (a proudly Canadian company ) released its much anticipated drivers for the X.Org 6.8 Window System today. ATI actually went one step further and updated its driver set for XFree86 as well. Those who had to hack and slash their way through the Fedora Core 3 install only to realize that VESA was the only way to get it working in init 5 will find this highly useful.
